Social

People, social impact, inclusion, diversity and equity guide our team and supply chain.

ODS AGENDA 2030

Sustainable Development Goals
Our actions are aligned with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and the 10 principles of the Global Compact. We seek to be a benchmark in sustainable spa tourism, managing in an efficient, transparent and responsible way, to care for and develop our environment and its community.
The end of poverty
  • CSR strategy and corporate policy
  • Collaboration with charities such as UNICEF or local associations such as the Cocina Económica, a soup kitchen in Santander.
Zero hunger
  • Sustainable agriculture and livestock farming with local producers.
  • Collaboration with programmes such as RE-APROVECHA in Cantabria, a campaign of the Regional Government fighting against food waste.
  • Application of good practices to avoid food waste in our activity.
Health and well-being
  • We generate physical health and emotional well-being for the people who visit us, that is our aim as a spa of mineral-medicinal thermal waters, declared of public utility in 1869.
  • We have qualified therapists who know well the techniques and natural therapies that we use in the treatment of different pathologies, injuries and ailments.
  • It is the ideal space for rest and recuperation.
Quality education
  • The company promotes continuous training at a personal or departmental level, and promotes internal promotion whenever possible, when it is necessary to fill or create new positions.
  • We actively collaborate with the University of Cantabria and numerous educational centres in the region, offering ourselves as a company to carry out internships in different areas of knowledge.
Gender equality
  • A good example is that senior management, management and general management, as well as 60% of middle management positions, are occupied by women.
  • We have a registered Equality Plan, which has been communicated and of which our team is aware.
  • It guarantees policies that integrate equal treatment and equal opportunities, without direct or indirect discrimination, facilitating the exercise of work-life balance rights.
Clean water and sanitation
  • We employ consumption reduction and responsible consumption policies, both among employees and customers.
  • We act in accordance with current legislation and do not carry out uncontrolled discharges or hazardous discharges that require any kind of express permission.
Affordable and clean energy
  • Reduction of consumption with presence sensors in communal areas or replacement of the luminaires in our installations with low-energy bulbs.
  • Raising awareness among staff of the importance of using resources responsibly through training and awareness-raising sessions.
  • Reduction of energy consumption through renewable energies such as geothermal energy, taking advantage of the heat from the thermal waters that were to be disposed of.
Decent work and economic growth
  • We seek profitability and business competitiveness through our commitment to CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility).
  • Implementation and dissemination among employees of equality measures, anti-harassment and anti-corruption protocols and codes of conduct, guaranteeing safety and protection conditions in the workplace.
  • Continuous training opportunities among staff members facilitating internal promotion options.
We facilitate local employment, boosting economic growth for the area and thus combating rural depopulation.
  • Advantages for staff members in the use or consumption of own services as well as collaboration with different companies and entities obtaining special conditions for employees.
  • Collaboration with local suppliers, committed to caring for the environment and the circular economy.
Industry, innovation and infrastructure
  • We are committed to technological and digital transformation, by enhancing the value of digital tools that allow customers easy and simple access to information, thus reducing paper consumption.
  • Digitisation actions are also promoted in internal processes.
Reducing inequalities
  • We have been awarded the seal of the Elderly-Friendly Establishment, which certifies beneficial conditions in terms of accessibility, safety and comfort for this group, thus guaranteeing equality and well-being for all.
  • We collaborated with charities that fight against inequality, such as CRUZ ROJA or the Cocina Económica, and we were close to those who needed it most with donations of masks and basic necessities for health workers during the pandemic.
Sustainable cities and communities
  • We love, disseminate and promote the natural, cultural and tourist resources of our location and surroundings, collaborating with local companies to offer the best services and experiences to our clients.
  • We promote sustainable and environmentally beneficial practices, such as the use of the VIA VERDE DEL PAS, a route for cycling around the area.
Responsible production and consumption
  • Our water management and its consumption is a responsible management, a sustainable exploitation of the spring and a geothermal plan with which we reduce energy.
  • Responsible consumption applies to all areas of work.
Climate action
  • Customers: We involve our customers in our sustainable practices, facilitating recycling, good use of water or food waste.
  • Suppliers: Selection of committed local suppliers, minimising travel and thus reducing the carbon footprint.
  • Employees: Dissemination of the 500 Good Practices Manual, a guide with which to be trained, informed and involved in the competitive regenerative hotel project.
Life of terrestrial ecosystems
  • Conservation of our gardens with autochthonous species and centenary specimens.
  • We are part of the Competitive Regenerative Forest Project, contributing to the improvement of the planet and the development of the most disadvantaged areas within the emptied Spain.
Peace, justice and strong institutions
  • We work for equality and justice with action protocols that are part of the company policy: Anti-harassment, anti-corruption, ethical code, protocols for the supply chain or the purchasing department.
Partnerships to achieve the objectives
  • We collaborate with public institutions and form part of different associations with which we establish alliances to carry out projects with common objectives, always aligned with the principles of the United Nations Compact and the 2030 agenda.

Sustainable growth

Sustainable SME Programme

El Balneario de Puente Viesgo has been a beneficiary of European Funds, aimed at strengthening sustainable growth and the competitiveness of SMEs, and thanks to which it has launched an Action Plan with the objective of strengthening the sustainable growth and competitiveness of SMEs during the year 2025. For this, it has had the support of the Sustainable SME Programme of the Chamber of Commerce of Cantabria.

Replacement of equipment

We continue to invest in the replacement of equipment to improve energy efficiency. On this occasion, the industrial washing machines in the spa's own laundry.

This action has been made possible thanks to a grant for Energy Efficiency and Circular Economy Projects in Tourism Businesses (C14.14, action line 2) of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. ORDER CTD/9/2024, 25 November.

Industrial Equipment Project Grant

Geothermal Project

It is certainly one of the most ambitious to date. We converted the heat from the thermal water that was to be disposed of into energy, thus reducing costs and becoming more efficient.

Project included in the programme of incentives linked to the implementation of thermal renewable energy installations in different sectors of the economy in the Autonomous Community of Cantabria, within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, financed by the European Union-NextGenerationEU.

Hydrothermal Installation

Walk responsibly!

Our flip-flops, made from recycled materials and produced in a responsible way, are the perfect complement to the access to our spa.

Installation of solar panels

These solar panels, strategically placed throughout our facilities, capture the sun's rays and convert them into clean, renewable electricity, thereby reducing our carbon footprint and contributing to green energy production.
