Greenway Pas
Bike path or “foot” of 14 kms which runs along the old road-Ontaneda Shipyard train.
We started the tour a few meters from Gran Hotel Balneario, next to City Hall Bridge Viesgo, old house of Fuentespila.
The greenway is perfectly equipped: with good signs, signage, rest areas and closed to automobile traffic. It is definitely a perfect choice for biking, walking or even skates. The route is mostly flat and not forget that is the route he used in his day the railway line to Ontaneda Shipyard.
At first asphalt is reddish and thus will be an important part of the journey, but at times will be green and even gray in the final stretch, and reaching Ontaneda.
A few meters from the start of the route, we found the old train station of Puente Viesgo, restored, with its canopy and its typical clock on the facade.
And most often, not to forget that we are in what was the railroad, an old locomotive, “The Brawl”. Next to it we have a small children’s play area and rest areas for rest but we will be finding almost all the way to Ontaneda.
We arrived at the Park Corrobárceno, with a large seating area with benches, tables, barbecues, swings … and that will be an enviable places to take a break on the shores of Rio Pas and contemplating Viesgo Dam Bridge, along the beautiful wooden bridge crossing the river.
From there we can contemplate the Castle Hill, where are located the famous prehistoric caves of the same name. Follow the path to get into the small town of Penilla where worth considering the layout of the town. We continue to the village of Soto Iruz.Con the Franciscan Monastery, where the highlight is the fabulous tower:
The next village is Villasevil Toranzo, with its church, and followed Santiurde of Toranzo, where in addition to the church, we just winged the old railway station. In the village of Santiurde, the route passes just stuck in the Aqueduct water took some time to Santander. There we have a tranquil sitting area.
Already in the next town, San Martin de Toranzo we find the Iron Bridge that crosses the Rio Pas and leads to the village of San Vicente de Toranzo, pass next to a rest area and timber production to go at all times on the River Pas, perhaps in the most beautiful and quiet area of travel.
Perhaps before the bridge and cross over the river we recommend a stop at the Park: “The Cagigal del Carmen”, San Martin, which we can access from a road just at the entrance of the bridge. It is a wonderful park with old trees and a little chapel in honor of the Virgen del Carmen.
Now, the track and runs in the village of San Vicente de Toranzo, Capital City of Corvera.En this people can visit an Ethnographic Museum. “The Man and The Field”, the Medieval Tower Agüero or perhaps the house where he lived Calderon de la Barca and multiple houses and a typical hill known dairy industry. This deviating very little from the path that follows the Greenway.
Already in Ontaneda pass very near the Palace of Ontaneda, currently Railroad History Archive.
And less than one kilometer and will be in the Park Alceda.Localizado in a beautiful natural setting with abundant and lush trees, a pond, children’s playground, spa facilities and forest adventure tours recently built circuits for adults and children, the theme park: Adventure Alceda. This park is the perfect place to enjoy the rest of the day snap.
And before hitting the back, you can zoom in Ontaneda to one of the many bakeries that carry typical desserts in the area. sobaos and quesadas (tipical product of Valles Pasiegos) certainly after this route, have already made the bike ride or walk, thank you enjoy one of these sweets in the whole region of Pas.
